To avoid duplication and to promote sustainability of efforts, we broker partnerships with communities that guarantee community participation and commitment.

Community Development
If development does not impact households in terms of changes in human development indicators, then development has not taken root. Our community development pillar seeks to partner with communities to model innovative projects that can be also be social impact investments for the private sector.

Community ownership and  participation in development initiatives are critical elements of ensuring equitable sustainable development in Liberia.

Key community development initiatives are:
1. Community projects and works that increase access to basic social services for the most disadvantaged
2. Community partnerships that promote community involvement in development
3. Micro-financial products to assist households to recover

Capacity Building
One of the major bottlenecks to development in Liberia is the lack of capacity in numerous sectors in the country. To address capacity gaps for development, The Development Brokers will work on a 3-prong approach to capacity building:
1. Source local and international consultants and facilitate their placement in strategic roles to transfer knowledge and skills to fill capacity gaps
2. In partnership with international institutions, conduct high quality international trainings in relevant development programming areas of focus
3. Conduct entrepreneurial training (budgeting, planning and saving) for women and other persons receiving micro- financial products to reduce default rates and help to sustain micro and small businesses. This will increase disposable income for poor households.

Independent Monitoring
There has not been a lack of development funding for Liberia. Since the 2003-2004 donor conferences and the subsequent donor support to Liberia, billions of dollars have been spent without any evidence of changes in the lives of the most disadvantaged. Access to safe drinking water, delivery in health facilities and other key child survival indicators show that there is high geographical inequity in Liberia. This is in addition to other forms of inequities. To this end, The Development Brokers will conduct independent monitoring of government, donor funded and even community supported projects.
Specifically, we offer:
1. Expenditure tracking down to the end-user
2. Independent verification of reported results

The purpose of this is to ensure that objective information is available about the completion of projects, the quality standards established in the beginning of the project and the use of the services by those for whom the services were put in place. This will ensure that the end user actually received and is using the services or products.

Partnerships, Knowledge and Advocacy - our cross-cutting strategies
in all that we do, partnerships cut across every pillar. Knowledge also cuts across all pillars as information is gathered at every step of our processes and will be used to ensure that lessons learned are used for advocacy for fulfillment of the rights of all Liberians, especially the marginalized and most disadvantaged. Knowledge from all sectors would be used to aid other sectors reduce duplication and improve synergistic development programming. Advocacy will be conducted at all levels for the rights of the voiceless and those with the least access their rights.
